MHA Social Club is the Highlight of the week for many of its members. Social Club provides weekly socialization opportunities for those in our community who suffer from mental illness or developmental disabilities. Volunteers assist the Social Club Coordinator by serving food, monitoring activities, socializing with members, cleaning up, and helping with special events. We seek individuals to join our weekly team, as well as groups to host Social Club (furnish and serve some or all of the food) or provide entertainment. If you have a free Monday evening and want to brighten the lives of some very special people, call us at (765) 459-0309 about volunteer opportunities.
Social Club meets twice monthly at the United Methodist Church 830 S. Main St. Must receive a referral from a Social Service Agency to attend this closed group.
Christmas Gift Lift
Since 1951, MHA of Howard County has provided holiday gifts for residents of Howard County who suffer with mental health issues. The Gift Lift has expanded to include residents of group homes and nursing home facilities, including those administered by Bona Vista, Howard Haven County Home, Community Howard, Howard county state hospital residents, local nursing homes, and members of Social Club.
Bags are filled with gifts for each individual. Last year, the Gift Lift provided gifts for more than 600 people. These are the only gifts many recipients receive all year. Gift donations and cash donations are taken all year to help us fulfill this enormous task.
With one part-time staff member to work on this program, MHA is dependent upon volunteers to help collect, inventory, tag, wrap, sort, bag, and deliver gifts. The Gift Lift kicks off November 1st of each year. Please call 765.459.0309 to learn about Gift Lift volunteer opportunities.
